Perfectly-secure cryptography is a branch of information-theoretic cryptography. A perfectly-secure cryptosystem guarantees that the malicious third party cannot guess anything regarding the plain text or the key, even in the case of full access to the cipher text. Despite this advantage, there are only a few real-world implementations of perfect secrecy due to some well-known limitations. Any simple, straightforward modeling can pave the way for further advancements in the implementation, especially in environments with time and resource constraints such as IoT. This book takes one step towards this goal via presenting a hybrid combinatorial-Boolean model for perfectly-secure cryptography in IoT. In this book, we first present an introduction to information-theoretic cryptography as well as perfect secrecy and its real-world implementations. Then we take a systematic approach to highlight information-theoretic cryptography as a convergence point for existing trends in research on cryptography in IoT. Then we investigate combinatorial and Boolean cryptography and show how they are seen almost everywhere in the ecosystem and the life cycle of information-theoretic IoT cryptography. We finally model perfect secrecy in IoT using Boolean functions, and map the Boolean functions to simple, well-studied combinatorial designs like Latin squares. This book is organized in two parts. The first part studie s information-theoretic cryptography and the promise it holds for cryptography in IoT. The second part separately discusses combinatorial and Boolean cryptography, and then presents the hybrid combinatorial-Boolean model for perfect secrecy in IoT.

The Internet of Things (IoT) can be defined as any network of things capable of generating, storing and exchanging data, and in some cases acting on it. This new form of seamless connectivity has many applications: smart cities, smart grids for energy management, intelligent transport, environmental monitoring, healthcare systems, etc. and EU policymakers were quick to realize that machine-to-machine communication and the IoT were going to be vital to economic development. It was also clear that the security of such systems would be of paramount importance and, following the European Commission’s Cybersecurity Strategy of the European Union in 2013, the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme was set up to explore available options and possible approaches to addressing the security and privacy issues of the IoT. This book presents 10 papers which have emerged from the research of the Horizon 2020 and CHIST-ERA programmes, and which address a wide cross-section of projects ranging from the secure management of personal data and the specific challenges of the IoT with respect to the GDPR, through access control within a highly dynamic IoT environment and increasing trust with distributed ledger technologies, to new cryptographic approaches as a counter-measure for side-channel attacks and the vulnerabilities of IoT-based ambient assisted living systems. The security and safety of the Internet of Things will remain high on the agenda of policymakers for the foreseeable future, and this book provides an overview for all those with an interest in the field.

This book is an exploration of the best strategies for implementation of IoT security. As IoT is a new technology, not much has been done to determine the best and final solution to IoT security challenges. However, this book guides you on the best mechanisms for ensuring that your IoT systems are kept secure. The threats to IoT security in most organizations are discussed. You are then guided on how to deal with each of these challenges. You will also learn the constraints which you have to adhere to whenever you are implementing IoT security. API management is one of the key approaches to implementation and ensuring that there is IoT security. This book guides you on the best strategies for management of APIs so as to ensure that the IoT systems are well secured. Authentication of the electronic devices used in IoT is also a good mechanism for the implementation of IoT security. This is explored in detail. Secure boot, which forms the root of trust in IoT security is also examined in this book. Public key cryptography, which is good for encryption of data in transit, is also discussed. The following topics are explored in this book: - A Brief Overview of IoT Security - Threats, Challenges, and Constraints in IoT Security - APIs in IoT - Authentication in IOT - Best Strategy for Securing IoT - Secure Boot - Public Key Cryptography
