Insanity Even in Nothing, I taste. I smell. I feel. Even in Quiet, I hear. Even in Blackness, I see. In the Darkness I lie, crying, screaming, fighting. In the Darkness I run, searching for escape. Running and Hiding. From the World. From Myself. From Everything. From Nothing. It's all in my Head.

Jill Gebhart Campbells passion for poetry, writing, and drawing prompted her to write this book, utilizing these creative genres, in order to portray her bipolar illness in a more personal way. It is also a reflection of how the devastating effects of bipolar disorder shaped her life. The authors story is about a young womans odyssey of triumph and sorrow and her journey to find herself again. Before her diagnosis, she was a beautiful, compassionate young woman who excelled in both athletics and academics. After her diagnosis she gained more than 120 poundsdue to health issues, sick children, psychiatric hospitalizations, and unsuitable medications. She became depressed, self-consumed, and bitter. The debilitating depression and hauntingly real hallucinations forever impacted the way she sees life and how life sees her. Her faith in God proved to be her ultimate anchor through her heart-wrenching circumstances. After admission to solitary confinement, due to hallucinations, she experienced an even more profound depression. The white walls, barred windows, cold cement floors, and white bedding only exacerbated my feelings of isolation and left me swirling downward in an even deeper depression. However, the Lords unconditional love has allowed her to walk on the bright side once again. She overcame all the odds to become the woman she longed to be. She has attained the serenity one reaches when theyve been to the very end, beyond hope, yet made it back.

"For fans of Ottessa Moshfegh, Juliet the Maniac is a worthy new entry in that pantheon of deconstruction... Dazzling."—NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW This portrait of a young teenager's fight toward understanding and recovering from mental illness is shockingly honest, funny, and heartfelt. Ambitious, talented fourteen-year-old honors student Juliet is poised for success at her Southern California high school. However, she soon finds herself in an increasingly frightening spiral of drug use, self-harm, and mental illness that lands her in a remote therapeutic boarding school, where she must ultimately find the inner strength to survive. A highly anticipated debut—from a writer hailed as "a combination of Denis Johnson and Joan Didion" (Dazed)—that brilliantly captures the intimate triumph of a girl's struggle to become the woman she knows she can be.

"A Small Introduction" As you may (or may not) know, I'm the author of two books - this one being my third. "It's Just One Of Those Days" was published in 2013. It's a story about a young woman who is abducted and trapped. She lives in constant fear and anxiety, unsure if she'll ever make it out alive. It's basically what was meant to be a short story and exploded into something much larger. "Poetry and Short Stories by a Bipolar Girl" was published in 2012. The title speaks for itself and as you may have guessed from it, I have bipolar disorder (among other things). I took a bunch of poems and short stories I'd written while either manic or depressed and put them together to make a book. My goal was to show a little bit about what mental illness does to people, while also making a fun-to-read book of course. Whether I succeeded or not is up to my readers. But I decided that showing mental illness to the world and how it truly affects us is something I still want to do. Which brings us to this book. I decided to change things up a bit (okay more than a bit) and turn all of my journal entries into a book. Yes, my personal journal entries written over the past few years. I figured if I really do want to help people understand mental illness, why not take them directly into the mind of someone who suffers from it? It varies from entry to entry. At the beginning I'm very clearly manic, but for pretty much the rest of it I'm extremely depressed. There are relationship problems, crappy days, hallucinating, depression, paranoia, self harm, anxiety... You name it, it's probably here. I left nothing out of the entries- the only thing I did was change everyone's name (for their sake, yes, but mostly because I was too lazy to ask permission to use their real names). Having bipolar disorder gives you both a great and a terrible outlook on life. As I said, there is a lot of depression in this book - that's "The Darkness." Then there are times when I'm either manic or just feelin

By the time she was in her early twenties, Bassey was a spoken word artist and traveling with HBO's Def Poetry Jam, channeling her life into art. But beneath the façade of the confident performer, Bassey's mental health was in a precipitous decline, culminating in a breakdown that resulted in hospitalization and a diagnosis of Bipolar II. In I'm Telling the Truth, But I'm Lying, Bassey Ikpi breaks open our understanding of mental health by giving us intimate access to her own. Exploring shame, confusion, medication, and family in the process, Bassey looks at how mental health impacts every aspect of our lives—how we appear to others, and more importantly to ourselves—and challenges our preconception about what it means to be "normal." Viscerally raw and honest, the result is an exploration of the stories we tell ourselves to make sense of who we are—and the ways, as honest as we try to be, each of these stories can also be a lie.

The sun rises and the sun sets, the sun rises and the sun sets, and so on. A long one might be the cycle of addiction. Use, recovery, relapse, use, recovery, and so on. I have completed many cycles in this life and have laid a lot of things to rest. The poems in this book tell my story in rhymes. Some are short and some are connected to make stories. These poems have helped a lot of people struggling with depression and addiction, and I hope that they may bring some light into your life.
