The sport of mixed martial arts provides its fans and athletes with a unique set of practices, philosophies, and techniques that can generate results and success in any aspect of life. Like the champions of MMA, there are those who excel in the world of business—those who have the ability to break sales quotas, build unstoppable teams, create dynamic businesses, and do so while savoring every minute they are alive. The connection between actions and mentalities of those who generate success is common to many fields, but in the world of MMA, the examples of how to generate results in ones area of endeavor is dynamically visible on multiple levels. Power of the Octagon is a comprehensive guide to enhancing eight critical areas of excellence. These areas include creating one's vision; defining and using psychological drivers for increased motivation; eliminating fear; working with tenacity; maximizing dedication, passion, and focus on success; establishing leadership; dealing with setbacks; and harnessing the winning mind. The goal of Power of the Octagon is to offer dynamic strategies of improvement in these eight areas in order to increase the overall performance of an individual. The skills you learn can contribute to accelerating your performance and helping you generate success in business, academics, military, and life in general. If you're striving to be a warrior of success inside or outside of the cage, Power of the Octagon can help.

Some poems are better written in flesh . . . After Wall Street and Tahrir Square, after ISIS and the NSA, after Ferguson and Eric Garner: here come the poets. In a downtown poetry slam with a place on the team to be won, eight young poets prepare to do battle. But backstage it's all kicking off with love triangles, families to feed and wounds to rip open. And in the end, is it about winning – or finding the words that need to be said? Octagon received its world premiere at the Arcola Theatre, London, on 16 September 2015.

This book is an odyssey into the truth of leadership’s nature and essence. Written for aspiring leaders, teachers of leaders, and followers, the aim is to practice awakening a leader’s potential. The book mirrors and reflects the inner nature of the leadership journey. It is written in a contemplative style and uses dialogue to exercise a leader’s will, intelligence, and spirit. The techniques taught in these chapters are dialogue, meditation, and contemplation. The author seeks to teach leaders how to exercise the power of will and the power of intelligence to make the kinetic chain of knowing, willing, and acting morally and intellectually strong. Reading this book serves as a leadership development exercise. This book is a teaching tool designed to demystify what takes place in the interior nature of a leader. It examines a leader’s soul, as it is exercised and strengthened in preparation for the cardinal act of leading, and it analyzes the act of making practical judgments, an act that demands the cultivation of a discerning mind to see and know the truth to be acted upon. Based on a true story, these chapters are a reflection on the formation of a leader and a realization of twenty years of research. The author studies the question: What does it take to develop a leader? Deliberations on eight years of guiding leaders on moral and intellectual quests in search of true freedom are revealed.

Realism and International Relations

Realism is one of the core theories within the field of international relations, and it generally posits a state system characterized by anarchy where states act in what they perceive to be their own self interests. It is a controversial theory, and it has many opponents. Yet effective debate among realists and those who identify with other schools of thought has diminished dramatically over time. As Patrick James argues in Realism and International Relations, scholars in the field have become dissatisfied with results from exchanges in words alone. He contends that translation of the vast amount of information in the field into knowledge requires a greater emphasis on communication beyond the use of text. Given the challenges posed by existing and intensifying information overload, he develops a new model that relies on the graphic representation of analytical arguments. As James explains, realist scholarship in the post-World War II era is the natural domain for the application of systemism, a graphic form of expression with straightforward rules for portrayal of analytical arguments, notably cause and effect within theories. Systemism goes beyond prior iterations of systems theory to offer a visualization technique borrowed and adapted from the philosophy of science. Systemist graphics reveal the shortcomings, contributions and potential of realism. These visualizations, which focus on realist theories about war, are intended to bring order out of what critics tend to describe, with some justification, as chaos. In sum, a graphic turn for realism in particular and international relations in general is essential in order to achieve the scientific progress that otherwise is likely to remain elusive. A major theoretical work by an eminent scholar, this will be of interest to all theorists focusing how the international system of states actually functions.
