The mysterious doctrine of the holy Trinity was but obscurely revealed under the Old Testament; for which reason, before Christ's coming, we find little or no knowledge of it. God the Father, speaking in the plural number in the creation of man, saying, Come, let us make man in our own image, ' (gen. And a father tells us, that God on purpose concealed from the Jews the doctrine of the Trinity, lest they should thence take occasion to fall into idolatry, and worship a plurality of Gods, to which they were too prone.
