What did Paul mean when he referred in His epistle to the Ephesians to the unsearchable riches of Christ? And what did he had in mind when he used the term "riches"? In the end, whatever these unsearchable riches might mean, who benefits from them and how can a Christian have them? If you would take up this book and start reading it, you would be surprised seeing that the author started his wonderful analysis on this topic by speaking of... humbleness! He picks up humbleness as the starting point in his exposition on Ephesians 3:8 because that was the apostle's attitude of heart when he started to write on the subject of the riches of Christ! Then he shows how this is the peculiar character of the souls upon whom Christ bestows His spiritual riches. Brooks then opens the Fountain "of the greatest riches, the best riches, the choicest riches" - namely the Person and work of Jesus Christ. "In Him we find overflowing the riches of justification, the riches of sanctification, the riches of consolation, and the riches of glorification.." This book has been originally published in 1655. Current edition has been proofread, typeset for eBook readers, and slightly updated for modern readers. About the author: Thomas Brooks (1608-1680) was an English nonconformist Puritan preacher and author. He wrote extensively and with a keen eye on devotional Christian life. Brooks died after over 40 years of Gospel ministry, in 1680.

The Riches of Christ are unsearchable, and beyond the understanding of man. What we have in Christ, what Jesus Christ brought to us, cannot be comprehended by the human mind. And no matter how you try to find them out, you cannot know all about them. God loves us more than we think or imagine. And He gave the world His Only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have Eternal Life. God has given us many great and precious provisions in Christ Jesus. Behold, what manner of love that the Father has given to us, that we should be called the children of God! And what is more? We are heir of God and joint-heirs with Christ!

CHRIST OUR LORD. A S soon as we know Christ as our Saviour and - Eedeemer, we are also taught that He is our Lord. His Lordship, indeed, is universal, and hence has reference to men as such, though at the same time He sustains this relationship in a special way towards believers. The Apostle Peter declared this truth on the day of Pentecost. Therefore, he said, let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ (Acts ii. 36). So also St. Paul: for after describing the long descent of Christ from being in the form of God, down to His being found in fashion as a man, and humbling Himself, and becoming obedient unto death, even the death of the cross, he says, Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Phil. ii.6-n). The Lord Jesus Himself, after His resurrection, says, All power is given unto Me in heaven and earth (Matt. xxviii. 18). Once more, St. Peter, dealing with another aspect of the same truth, tells us of false teachers who shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord1 that bought them (2 Peter ii. 1). We have then, so far, two things: first, that God has made Christ Lord on the ground of redemption, giving Him this place of universal supremacy to mark His appreciation (if we may thus reverently speak) of the work which He had wrought out by His death; and secondly, that, as we saw in the last chapter, Christ has acquired Lordship over all by purchase. This thought we find in one of ...
