This unusual early work aims to review every known method of healing through the mind and the spirit, to assess the place of psychology and religion in the field of non-physical healing, to pass a critical judgment on the methods used to attain health in this field, and to ascertain along which lines modern techniques might usefully proceed. Thoroughly recommended for inclusion on the bookshelf of any psychologist or spiritual healing enthusiast. Contents Include: Man's Earliest Search for Healing, Earlier Methods of Healing Through Religion, Earlier Methods of Healing Through Psychology, Modern Methods of Healing Through Religion, Modern Methods of Healing Through Psychology, Do Modern Psychological Methods of Healing Need Religion?, Do Modern Religious Methods of Healing Need Psychology?, and The Modern Search For Healing Through Psychology and Religion. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. There has recently been much interest in the relationship between science and religion, and how they combine to give us a 'binocular' perspective on things. One important phenomenon which has been neglected in recent work is the concept of spiritual healing. This edited collection explores a variety of approaches to spiritual healing from different religious points of view, identifying both what it is and how it works. The authors also explore the biological and psychological processes, open to scientific enquiry, through which healing may be mediated. As such, this book indicates the central proposition that religious and scientific perspectives answer different questions about healing, and there is not necessarily any conflict between them.
