This is indeed a remarkable literary endeavor. Readers who see a kaleidoscope of thoughts, experiences, convictions, and philosophies in this book will certainly find and cherish the invaluable pearls of wisdom scattered in various parts of the book. I am impressed with the particular mention of climate change and global warming. It is indeed a timely measure to bring awareness in the general populace, especially the indifferent lot who are still in a daze over the haze prevalent in the atmosphere. Today, natural calamities have become a global crisis that warrants urgent remedies, hence, the need for clean energy revolution to combat the devastating climate bomb. Written with a down-to-earth approach, the author has seriously attempted to also awaken and enlighten dreamers to the imminent social hazards that considerably affect the harmony between the human races. Human life cannot be compromised. The despicable violent minority is comfortably riding on the docile silent majority. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, "It's time we reverse might is right to right is might." Dedicate your time and energy for a cause worthy of your blessed birth on this earth. This book, enriched with thoughtful and inspiring sayings, will absolutely earn its keep. S. Applasamy, Retired Educator

All the creative art psychotherapies (art, dance, music, drama, poetry) can trace their roots to C. G. Jung's early work on active imagination. Joan Chodorow here offers a collection of Jung's writings on active imagination, gathered together for the first time. Jung developed this concept between the years 1913 and 1916, following his break with Freud. During this time, he was disoriented and experienced intense inner turmoil --he suffered from lethargy and fears, and his moods threatened to overwhelm him. Jung searched for a method to heal himself from within, and finally decided to engage with the impulses and images of his unconscious. It was through the rediscovery of the symbolic play of his childhood that Jung was able to reconnect with his creative spirit. In a 1925 seminar and again in his memoirs, he tells the remarkable story of his experiments during this time that led to his self-healing. Jung learned to develop an ongoing relationship with his lively creative spirit through the power of imagination and fantasies. He termed this therapeutic method "active imagination." This method is based on the natural healing function of the imagination, and its many expressions. Chodorow clearly presents the texts, and sets them in the proper context. She also interweaves her discussion of Jung's writings and ideas with contributions from Jungian authors and artists.

In this latest book, A Prophetic Dreamer's Reflections on Life, John E. Desautels reflects back on his life and comments on a number of topics that are relevant for most people facing a complex, modern society. Mr. Desautels is now in his golden years, and these are his thoughts after a lifetime of study and observation. Although this is not a book on dreams, he often proposes using guidance from dreams as a way out of the dilemmas many people face in their daily existence. Mr. Desautels addresses the main challenges that people encounter in their daily lives and offers insights from his many years of meditation and following his dream guidance. He discusses how dreams often provide an answer when all other approaches fail. His thoughts focus on the role of the mind and how we create our problems through lack of self-awareness. He describes a path consisting of attention and exploration of the subconscious that we can follow to smooth our journey through life on this Earth. Belief, metaphysics, the inner voice, illusion, personal responsibility, death, spiritual growth, drugs, fear, aloneness, healing, the soul's purpose, the art of seeing, introspection, and faith are among the many topics discussed. They are reflected on by a prophetic dreamer who has spent a lifetime searching for meaning through meditation and the analysis of his dreams. The answers he found provided solutions to issues in his life and are generally applicable to others' lives. Mr. Desautels perspective is unique because few people can say they have journeyed through life with the daily assistance of their dreams. He realized his insights by applying his dream guidance on a daily basis in a challenging management position at a major corporation. The topics in this small book represent much of what he learned over a lifetime of personal and work challenges. And they provide an inside look at the mind of a prophetic dreamer and how he views life's challenges.

We all dream; we all share these strange experiences that infuse our nights. But we only know of those nightly adventures when we decide to represent them. In the long history of coming to terms with dreams there seem to be two different ways of delineating our forays into the world of the unconscious: One is the attempt of interpreting, of unveiling the hidden meaning of dreams. The other one is not so much concerned with the relation of dream and meaning, of dream and reality, it rather concentrates on trying to find means of representation for this extremely productive force that determines our sleep. The essays collected in this book explore both attempts. They follow debates in philosophy and psychoanalysis and they study literature, theatre, dance, film, and photography.
