Simeon Leland, proprietor of the Metropolitan Hotel, New York City, stopped with his nephew at the famous Clarendon, and he, too, drove four horses. It was remarked at the time that he was the first hotel proprietor ever to appear on the streets of that village holding the ribbons over the backs of four high-steppers.
