Who but Russell Hoban could weave a tale of life’s pleasures and pain around a candy pig? And who but Quentin Blake could make the most poignant of stories so lighthearted and delightful? In this episodic picture book by an inimitable author-illustrator duo, a fantastic chain of events is triggered by the unacknowledged fall of a marzipan pig behind the sofa. We meet in quick succession a heartsick mouse, a lonely grandfather clock, an owl in love with a taxi meter, a worker bee, a fading hibiscus flower, a mouse who greets the dawn dancing, and finally a boy who guesses at the true relations between things. Appealing to the unsentimental yet sensitive nature of children, The Marzipan Pig is exquisitely attuned to the bittersweet wonder of life and to the sentience of all beings.

She was born in the wind, on a farm not too far from home, and on an unusually warm Sunday morning. In no time at all, we saw that this was a foal who wouldn't need much nudging, or urging, or hurrying along. Within half an hour, she was up and tottering across the straw on unsteady pirate's legs, making her way straight for the safety webbing, even before she had taken her first all-important gulp of milk. Her already steady gaze taking in her new world. And so life with Rosie began.' Helen Thomas has long had a passion for race horses. As a teenager, her first high school overlooked Melbourne's most picturesque racecourse; she clipped tales of racing courage from the newspapers and dreamt of being part of the racing world. When she finally becomes the proud owner of Poetic Waters, the broodmare repays her leap of faith with a little foal called Rosie. A foal Helen hopes will one day make the grade as a race horse. But it's a tough, winding road from paddock to track and, despite the attention of stellar trainer Robbie Griffiths, Rosie's trek is marked by frustration as much as triumph. Life With Rosie charts the blossoming of a young thoroughbred - and Helen's rite of passage as one of thousands of owners across Australia hoping that all the hard work, and just a little bit of luck, will lead her horse to racetrack success.

This 2nd book is a continuation of the 1st book. The index at the back of the book is brilliant. The contents list, at the front of the book, is in alphabetical order, and is a list of the horses names, gives paragraph numbers. Whereas the Index gives the Rider/Owner in alphanumeric order and gives paragraph numbers. So if you do not know the name of a persons horse you would look up the person in the Index and it would indicate the paragraph numbers to find the answer. For instance: Steptoe and Son would be under 'S' in the Index and this would lead you to 'Hercules', the strong man from Greek Mythology. Or Toy Story 2 would lead you to 'Bullseye' Books 3 and 4 are in the process of compiling, it’s a “Never Ending Story”.
