An innkeeper who reads minds. An ornery detective. And a trail of bodies. Cider Cove is the premiere destination for murder. My name is Bizzy Baker, and I can read minds-not every mind, not every time but most of the time and believe me when I say it's not all it's cracked up to be. It's Christmas in Cider Cove and it's time for the annual house decorating competition. But on the night set to determine the winner, the residents of Candy Cane Lane get more than they bargained for. They don't just get an award-they get murder. Bizzy Baker runs the Country Cottage Inn, has the ability to pry into the darkest recesses of both the human and animal mind, and has just stumbled upon a body. With the help of her kitten, Fish, a mutt named Sherlock Bones and an ornery yet dangerously good looking homicide detective, Bizzy is determined to find the killer. The Country Cottage Inn is known for its hospitality. Leaving can be murder.A laugh out loud cozy mystery by New York Times Bestseller Addison Moore and her partner in cozy crime, Bellamy Bloom.

For hundreds of years, the story of Santa Claus and his reindeer have endeared many people the world over. Parents and children alike have loved the story. But for all my cognitive years, I have had trouble accepting some parts of the story. You see, as I grew older and wiser, I started doubting some of the storylines. For instance, I questioned how was it that Santa could put all those gifts of all the children of the world into that tiny sleigh? Why, the weight of the gifts alone would crush the sleigh to pulp! Or, how can a reindeer fly? Questions like that, and others, bothered me no end. I needed answers. So, in my search for the answers to my questions, I would probe my parents to explain to me just how could Santa Claus do things that ordinary people like you and me could not do? Like slide down chimneys without getting dirty? But alas, my curiosity was never quelled by their feeble answers . So I was left to myself to find my own answers, or forever go unsatisfied in life This is why, with great relief, I was informed of a certain document that was being kept by the NorthPole Times that contained the answers to all my boyhood questions, regarding this jolly old, red suited elf I cannot reveal my source of information, so don't ask for names. Suffice it to say that the information was true, and I was able to get hold of this paper. So now, with permission from all parties involved, I pass on to you, the world, the information you need to answer the tough questions that YOUR children will be asking of you. Now without further delay, reprinted in its entirety, is the interview of "Santa Claus" and "Zeke" the North Pole Times reporter.

Santa Claus lives in the Laughing Valley, where stands the big, rambling castle in which his toys are manufactured. His workmen, selected from the ryls, knooks, pixies and fairies, live with him, and every one is as busy as can be from one year's end to another. It is called the Laughing Valley because everything there is happy and gay. The brook chuckles to itself as it leaps rollicking between its green banks; the wind whistles merrily in the trees; the sunbeams dance lightly over the soft grass, and the violets and wild flowers look smilingly up from their green nests. To laugh one needs to be happy; to be happy one needs to be content. And throughout the Laughing Valley of Santa Claus contentment reigns supreme. On one side is the mighty Forest of Burzee. At the other side stands the huge mountain that contains the Caves of the Daemons. And between them the Valley lies smiling and peaceful. One would thing that our good old Santa Claus, who devotes his days to making children happy, would have no enemies on all the earth; and, as a matter of fact, for a long period of time he encountered nothing but love wherever he might go. But the Daemons who live in the mountain caves grew to hate Santa Claus very much, and all for the simple reason that he made children happy.Ê

Much of the modern-day vision of Santa Claus is owed to the Clement Moore poem "The Night Before Christmas." His description of Saint Nicholas personified the "jolly old elf" known to millions of children throughout the world. However, far from being the offshoot of Saint Nicholas of Turkey, Santa Claus is the last of a long line of what scholars call "Wild Men" who were worshipped in ancient European fertility rites and came to America through Pennsylvania's Germans. This pagan creature is described from prehistoric times through his various forms--Robin Hood, The Fool, Harlequin, Satan and Robin Goodfellow--into today's carnival and Christmas scenes. In this thoroughly researched work, the origins of Santa Claus are found to stretch back over 50,000 years, jolting the foundation of Christian myths about the jolly old elf.
