The loss of a child is every parents worst nightmare. For Randah Ribhi Hamadeh this nightmare became a reality. The poems in Summer Rays offer consolation to any parent on a grief journey. It is a poetic diary of loss and communication with the eternal soul. Through her poems, all bereaved parents will identify with the heartfelt pleadings of a grieving parent and the connection with her lost child. Readers will find her poetry profound as she describes the familiar, excruciating pain of a grieving parent, in particular on the special occasions where the lost child is missed; birthdays, anniversaries, Mothers Day and New Years Day. They will also relate to her feelings of gratitude towards those who were supportive and frustration with those less understanding. Writings from the soul are cathartic not only for the authors but for all who share their unthinkable sorrow. As with any writing, when the writer takes up the pen, the muse will appear. In this case, the muse is Samar Ahmed Al Ansari, the authors deceased daughter.

This book describes how parents lose, find, or relocate spiritual anchors after the death of their child. It describes how ordinary people reconstruct their lives after their foundations have shifted, and how they make sense of their world after one of their centers of meaning has been removed. Klass grounds his descriptions of spirituality in his scholarly study of comparative religions, and in his two decades studying the lives of bereaved parents. He argues that continuing bonds with their dead children can give parents a new transcendent reality. Deceased children, like saints or bodhisattvas, can offer a bridge between the profane and sacred worlds, support parents as they find meaning in a world made forever poorer, and bind together a community adequate to parents' grief. The book reports Klass's clinical practice and his work as advisor to a bereaved parents self-help support group.

Excerpt from Solace for Bereaved Parents, or Infants Die to Live: With an Historical Account of the Doctrine of Infant Salvation I would here quote the language Of one of our oldest and most thoroughly Calvinistic Divines, the celebrated William Perkins, a Puritan: Infants have no works whereby they may be judged, seeing they do neither good nor evil, as the Scripture speaketh Of Jacob and Esau, Rom. Ix. Therefore all shall not be judged according to works. Ans. These phrases Of Scrip ture, as' a man sows, so shall he reap every one shall receive according to his works, (ye. Are not to be extended to all, but must be restrained to such as have works, and knowledge to discern betwixt good and evil, which, infants have not. For besides that they are destitute of works, they also want the use Of reason; and therefore they shall not be judged by the book Of conscience, but by the book of life. For to say as Hugo de S. Vict. Doth upon the Romanes, quaest. 59, that they shall be condemned for the sins which their parents committed in their conception and nativ ity, as though they themselves had actually committed them, is contrary to that, Ezek.
