The essential feature consists in a soft rubber dilatable bag or balloon, covered by silken mesh or material and fastened on to a bougie. This is passed from above downward through the cardia, and then, by distending the bag with water under regulated pressure, the cardia can be sub jected to adilating force Of any degree desired.
