Excerpt from Teacher's Manual for First Year Latin for Use With Bellum Helveticum This handbook is provided at the request of certain teachers who have expressed their desire of learning how recitations are conducted by others who are using Bellum Helveticum in their classes from day to day. In working out these recitations to meet this demand, it seemed wise to give at the same time translations of most of the Latin-English and English-Latin exercises that appear in the book. These translations made by other teachers may be useful even to those who have already worked out these exercises satisfactorily for themselves. All the material here supplied is the record of the actual working of the textbook in the classroom. Professor Walker, who revised the Bellum Helveticum, has carefully gone over all this material before its publication, as have also the editors of the Lake Classical Series. It is the hope of the publishers in presenting this little manual to teachers of beginning Latin that it may be of some service by the suggestions and hints which it supplies, both for those who are using Bellum Helveticum in their classes and for those who are using other beginning books.
