Award-winning journalist Jonathan Franklin chronicles the harrowing account of the 33 Chilean miners who were trapped underground for fourteen weeks in the fall of 2010. A resident of Chile since 1994, award-winning investigative reporter Jonathan Franklin gained access to the miners, their families, rescuers, and government officials that other journalists could only dream of. He developed such a bond of trust with the miners that they described in great detail the dramatic first seventeen days of their confinement. Once the miners were rescued, Franklin interviewed virtually all of them—at their homes, at his house, on horseback, and at the beach. The result is 33 Men, the most authoritative book on the Chilean mine disaster. Written with the author’s renowned eye for detail, it captures the remarkable story of the miners who grasped the essence of the human spirit in order to survive their entrapment, and the men and women who literally moved a mountain to set them free.

Wear just 33 items for 3 months and get back all the JOY you were missing while you were worrying what to wear. In Project 333, minimalist expert and author of Soulful Simplicity Courtney Carver takes a new approach to living simply--starting with your wardrobe. Project 333 promises that not only can you survive with just 33 items in your closet for 3 months, but you'll thrive just like the thousands of woman who have taken on the challenge and never looked back. Let the de-cluttering begin! Ever ask yourself how many of the items in your closet you actually wear? In search of a way to pare down on her expensive shopping habit, consistent lack of satisfaction with her purchases, and ever-growing closet, Carver created Project 333. In this book, she guides readers through their closets item-by-item, sifting through all the emotional baggage associated with those oh-so strappy high-heel sandals that cost a fortune but destroy your feet every time you walk more than a few steps to that extensive collection of never-worn little black dresses, to locate the items that actually look and feel like you. As Carver reveals in this book, once we finally release ourselves from the cyclical nature of consumerism and focus less on our shoes and more on our self-care, we not only look great we feel great-- and we can see a clear path to make other important changes in our lives that reach far beyond our closets. With tips, solutions, and a closet-full of inspiration, this life-changing minimalist manual shows readers that we are so much more than what we wear, and that who we are and what we have is so much more than enough.

If given another chance to write for the series, which albums would 33 1/3 authors focus on the second time around? This anthology features compact essays from past 33 1/3 authors on albums that consume them, but about which they did not write. It explores often overlooked and underrated albums that may not have inspired their 33 1/3 books, but have played a large part in their own musical cultivation. Questions central to the essays include: How has this album influenced your worldview? How does this album intersect with your other creative and critical pursuits? How does this album index a particular moment in cultural history? In your own personal history? Why is the album perhaps under-the-radar, or a buried treasure? Why can't you stop listening to it? Bringing together 33 1/3's rich array of writers, critics, and scholars, this collection probes our taste in albums, our longing for certain tunes, and our desire to hit repeat--all while creating an expansive "must-listen" list for readers in search of unexplored musical territories.

On 12 October 2010 the world's attention was fixed on a remote copper mine in the Atacama desert in Chile. Final preparations were underway for a daring rescue to bring to an end the longest underground entrapment in human history. 69 days earlier, 33 men were midway through a routine shift, deep in the San Jose mine. They stopped for their lunch break at the tiny safety shelter, 688 meters below the surface. Ten minutes later they heard an almighty crack and a deep rumbling sound. Clouds of dust and debris poured down on the choking men. The bombardment lasted for five hours. When it finally cleared the men began to explore the 6km of underground tunnels, caves and dead ends - only to discover they were trapped under tonnes of collapsed rock. They survived on the most meagre of rations believing an attempt to rescue them was underway: a spoonful of tuna fish and a half glass of milk every 48 hours. But as days turned to weeks, hope began to fade and as starvation set in, they prepared for a slow and agonizing death. 17 days after the collapse a drill finally reached them, they sent a note back to the surface: 'all 33 of us are well inside the shelter'. Now a 700 meter-long tunnel, the width of an orange, connected them to the surface. Above ground at 'Camp Hope' the rescue team now included hundreds of geologists, engineers, psychologists, as well as the families of the men. Three separate rescue missions were launched, but hit one setback after another. 10 weeks after the collapse, and with the world watching, all 33 men would be brought safely to the surface. The 33 is the remarkable story of their 10-week incarceration, half a mile below the surface - and the epic rescue mission which finally brought them back to life.
