How does John Calvin view the church? And how does the pivotal event of Pentecost influence his view on the church? In his commentary on the Acts of the Apostles Calvin shows how Pentecost and the preaching of the Gospel gives rise to the church. For Calvin the new and peculiar aspect of Pentecost is articulated by the phrases »I will pour out« and »on all flesh« (Acts 2:17). The first phrase ("I will pour out") leads to a discussion of the Holy Spirit who leads the church and the believers by the Word and his secret guidance. All gifts flow from the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the study focuses on Calvin's view on the gifts of the Holy Spirit and on their use in church. The author argues that the gifts of the Spirit are the basis of Calvin's interpretation of Christian church. The second phrase ("on all flesh") leads to a discussion of the inclusion of the Gentiles in the church. The author treats different ecclesiologic topics of importance: He analyses the most important aspects of church that Calvin identifies in the book of Acts. His reflections are aiming at a convincing theological appreciation of the sacraments, in particular of the sacrament of baptism. By addressing Calvin's thoughts as elements of his historical context and including contemporary impulses to these issues, the author is able to present conclusive arguments for his main claim: Calvin's commentary on Acts enriches and qualifies Calvin's own systematic ecclesiology as found in his main doctrinal work, the Institutes.

The Lord Jesus Christ declared . . . I will build My church: and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18). Throughout the past two thousand years, the church has proclaimed a variety of methods for people to follow in Jesus’ steps. Yet, few have followed His instructions and built the church according to Christ’s teachings which were entrusted to the ministers in His church. The first church was rooted and grounded in the Apostles’ Doctrine (Acts 2:42) and as such the church was built on the sure foundation. Sadly, it has not always contended for the faith but designed and adopted methods that are not in accordance with Christ’s teachings. Now is the appropriate time for the church to return to the biblical structure and conform to tenets found in the Bible. This book contains all the tenets of the Apostles’ Doctrine in one volume. It expounds the deep truths within the Holy Writ and leads ministers to once again conform to the perfect will of God (Romans 12:1-2).

This book helps us answer, What does it mean to be Spirit-filled? What is a Spirit-filled church, and how do I find a Spirit-filled church near me? What is a Spirit-filled person or Christian, and what does living a Spirit-filled life look like? What are Spirit-filled preachers? What are Spirit-filled prayers? What are Spirit-filled Bible studies? What is a Spirit-filled church fellowship? Charles reveals to us in his book the characteristics of the first century church that should be the norm in our churches today. We need to practice these Spirit-Filled traits with our children, our teens, our young adults, and our adults if we want true Biblical revival in our church. Revival starts here in these ten characteristics taken from Acts 2 with the beginning of the first church. This writing is genuinely a great Revival Bible study book that you will find inspirational. At the same time others have based their theological dispositions on "signs and wonders" characterized by the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement. Popular teachers Paul Cain and R.T. Kendall believe that God is on the brink of releasing an era of unprecedented glory as the people of God "marry" together both the Word and the Spirit.
