In most cases these are plain enough: yet there are many cases where much consideration was required; and after all it will be interesting to know what Biblical scholars will think about the accuracy of the arrangement here given. As a translation of line by line was aimed at, a great change from the arrangements of the Authorized Version was necessary; sometimes expanding, more fre quently condensing, the sentences. The various Divine names have been retained as they occur, and also the repetition of pronouns where these are used emphatically. The order of words in the Hebrew has been carefully pre served as far as possible; uniformity has been attempted in the translation of words; the variations of tense in verbs have likewise been attended to. While it is hoped that in doing thus the English idiom has been sufficiently maintained, there is without doubt a clearer connection of ideas than can be traced in some parts of the Authorized Version.
