The English Foxhound is one of the four foxhound breeds of dog that were specifically developed to be able to hunt foxes by their scent alone. The name 'Fox Terrier' refers to two different breeds of terrier type dog: the Smooth Fox Terrier and the Wire Fox Terrier. Both of these breeds originated in the 19th century from a handful of British Terriers and are related to the modern white terrier breeds. Both types of Fox Terrier have a mostly white coat with different colored markings - the breed's coat colorations and coat texture is the main difference that separates both the Smooth Fox Terrier and the Wire Fox Terrier.
