Feeling convinced that the study of the Hebrew language has been hitherto sadly neglected, and that neither in our public schools nor universities has it ever reached that place in the curriculum which it deserves to occupy, he hopes that in the years of the present century this reproach may be removed. It has occurred to him that this neglect - this ignorance of the Hebrew language (which exists even among clergymen) may be due to a mistaken apprehension of the difficulty of its acquirement.
