This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1850 edition. Excerpt: ... or one tending to prove his lucidity, to your somnambulist. Speak to him solely of his disease, -direct all his attention to the means to be adopted for the restoration of his health. His cure is your essential object--never forget it for one moment."--Deleuze. The well authenticated facts of persons who, on being mesmerised, have passed into this state, and have then described the nature of their malady and the remedies to be pursued, and who, in strictly following them out, have been perfectly cured, are so numerous that I regret space will not allow me to quote further directions. I must therefore refer you to "Practical Instructions on Mesmerism, by Deleuze." CHAPTER VII. DEMESMERISING, OR AWAKENING PROCESSES. I have shown how simple is the process for producing the mesmeric state; the demesmerising, or awakening process is still more so. You have merely to place the back of the hands together, near to the eyes of the patient, with the fingers pointing at them, then to draw the hands sharply and suddenly away to the right and the left; repeat this process until the patient opens his eyes. These are called transverse passes, and should be made from the head to the feet and over every part of the body you wish to demesmerise. Blowing sharply into the eyes, or on the head, has the same effect; and that the influence may be entirely dispersed, raise a current of air by quickly waving a handkerchief around him. The quick upward passes will also waken; but with some patients they cause headache, &c, and are therefore not desirable. If the case be urgent, pour cold water on the palms of the hands, or apply a piece of linen, saturated with water, to the nape of the neck. These applications will be found to have the effect, but they will...

This unique Book is the new enlarged and complete version of the earlier "Easy Guide to Mesmerism and Hypnotism", with added text and notes. Dr. Paret personally reviewed this new Edition as he applies with incredible success this ancient methodology into which he was personally initiated. Mesmerism is completely different from modern hypnosis. Mesmerism is the Western school corresponding to the use of Prana or Ki (Chi) in Orient. Parts of the teachings of this school were never completely disclosed in print. Dr. Paret, who is a genuine practitioner, wrote a serie of notes which allow a better understanding of practical applications of these techniques and their actualness. Many of the powerful results of Mesmerism are scarcely reachable if only pursued through verbal hypnosis. Dr. Paret therefore accompanies you through your reading. You will not only find here the original text of Dr. Coates, but also a better understanding of the original school of magnetism. If you really want to immerse in this powerful world, this is your occasion!

Excerpt from The Mesmerist's Manual of Phenomena and Practice: With Directions for Applying Mesmerism to the Cure of Diseases, and the Methods of Producing Mesmeric Phenomena, Intended for Domestic Use and the Instruction of Beginners IN presenting this little Manual to the public, I seek to offer something which may be useful to those who desire a knowledge of the subject. I do not, for a moment, presume to say that I can teach that which is not already known. I claim nothing as a discoverer, - I am merely a retailer of other men's dis coveries. That which a man learns from others and then reduces to practical experiment, verifying and understanding by personal observation, he makes his own, - and may again teach or set it forth without being charged as a mere plagiarist. Mesmerism was well understood and practised, even in this country, before I was born; all relating to it which I now know and can tell has been already ascertained; it is therefore not personally a fault that I cannot teach anything not previously known; The information which I try to give in the following pages I know to be truth; the reader will judge if it be given plainly or obscurely; I can only hope for a favourable verdict if found worthy of it. I make no pretension to elegance of composition, seek not to produce a literary work, but am content if it be found plain and practical, and consequently useful. If I am charged with twice telling or repeating the same thing too often - be it so; I would rather tell too well than be obscure, or not tell plainly enough that which it is important the learner should clearly apprehend.
