Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 67: August 3, 1905 I labor in the vineyard night and day, and the Lord labors with me. There have been between one and two hundred baptized in this place since we came, and Elder Kimball is now laboring about fifteen miles from this place, where he has raised a small branch of the Church, and I do not know but that it is a large one by this time. The Lord is with him and he can preach so loud and so fast that the Catholics call him a noisy devil. Brother Goodson has this day returned from Bedford and says that he left thirteen baptized into the new covenant there. Brother Richards is left with them. Brother Goodson will remain in this place with me for a' season. R Brother Snider has returned from the borders of Scotland where he and Brother Russel went to labor, and Brothers Fielding and Snider left this place yesterday to go out into the country on a mission, and will go from house to house. Brother Russel has not baptized any as yet, but he will soon, ' I think. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 66: April 21, 1904 God bless you. May He pour out His Spirit upon His people and help them to be wise and prudent in their words and in their actions. We say to you, keep the laws of God, and you should honor and keep the constitutional laws of men. That is what we say. We say to you, pay your debts and get out of debt. Pay your obligations and free yourselves from the bondage of obligation, if you can, and as soon as you can. We say to you, protect your own faith by Godly lives. We say to you, do unto others as you would have them do unto you - in righteousness. We say to you, keep the faith delivered to the Saints in the latter day. We say to you, honor God in your lives; honor and love Christ, the Son of God, in your hearts; uphold in honor and maintain respect for the name of Joseph Smith, the Prophet of God, who was instrumental in laying the foundation of this great latter-day work. Do not turn away at every wind of doctrine or be swayed by the cunning and craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to de ceive. Know the truth for yourselves. Walk in the light as Christ is in the light, and you will have fellowship with Him, and then the blood of Jesus Christ will cleanse you from all sin. God bless you to this end is my humble prayer, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 66: March 31, 1904 There have been a number of converts made who have joined themselves to adjacent stakes of Zion of which there are eight within the mission borders. Some members who have been slack in their duties have been persuaded to renew their diligence in the work. Many girls, who have drifted away from the Church and have married outside of its pale, have been found and their children have been blessed and baptized. In this way alone the establishment of the mission has done much good. The mission work has been and is still growing and, though few converts are being made, many have become warm friends and defenders of the Mormon Elders. Hospitality is characteristic of the people and the Elders have suffered little or no hardship when left to their mercy. God has abundantly blessed His servants in this mission. Comparatively few are met who give credence to the many stories which are being circulated about the Church. One old gentleman said to the writer the other day, If some of these people who are doing so much talking would go to Utah and see for themselves, as I have done, they would return with the notion that the Mormons are a pretty good people. Referring to the Senator Smoot agitation, he continued, Petitions are no guide to be governed by. I could go out and in a few hours get fifty names to a petition to hang a man. Liberality of thought and expression is everywhere heard. The people are willing to allow all others their own peculiar mode of worship and show no desire to molest them in it. They are content with the religion of their fathers and do not give themselves to worrying about their neighbors. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 66: November 10, 1904 One of the essentials, the leading essential, is the proper appreciation of the doctrines of the Gospel of J esus Christ. There is that which will bring life, and joy, and happiness forever. You should not esteem it lightly, nor deny its messengers a hearing. They stand ready at your doors to teach it you, freely and without cost. Despise them not, nor spurn their message. Though its adoption may bring you some annoyance, in the final review of your life it will act as a well of living water springing up unto everlasting life. You may think that the Latter-day Saints have not a message worth your while; you have more important things. I tell you that to fail to hear them, to avoid or refuse entertaining them, and to neglect to listen to and obey the message which they bear, is precious opportunity lost, which, one day, in the final, the home review of the experiences of your life, will bring you sorrow and regret. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 66: May 26, 1904 Another question for Christians. A few years ago, a boy in his innocent years claimed to have walked and talked with God. If you look upon such a thing as absurd, why do you take so much means and lose so much breath over his doctrines and teachings? Why have you resorted to everything known to man to persecute his followers and to destroy his work? Why are those Mormons of western America giving you so much trouble, why are they seemingly worrying the world? If they are deluded, why do you not go among them as real Christians and say to them: Here, I am thy brother, and you are mine, Let us talk our ideas over and accept each others truths and good teachings. 'do you not know that Truth will always overcome Error when they meet face to face? If the Saints of the Last days have nothing good, then why is it that no people are more cleanly in their daily lives and habits; why is it that among all the states of the Union, Utah ranks third in educa tion? If they have nothing good, why is it that they accept the divine injunction, The glory of God is intelligence There must be a mistake somewhere. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol.
