Excerpt from The Metallurgy of Zinc and Cadmium Although the zinc industry of the world ranks in importance with the copper and lead industries, there has never been printed heretofore a special treatise on the metallurgy of zinc. Such essays on this subject as have been published in generally available form are embodied in the handbooks on general metallurgy and industrial chemistry, which being necessarily brief fail to describe adequately the modern practice in this branch of metallurgy. Besides these there is no literature on the subject save in the files of technical periodicals and the transactions of scientific societies, chie y French and German, inasmuch as the Belgian and German engineers have led the way in this branch of metallurgy, until recently at least. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in our edition. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works."

Excerpt from The Metallurgy of the Common Metals: Gold, Silver, Iron (and Steel), Copper, Lead and Zinc Since 1913, the date of the last edition, such radical changes and improvements have been made in the-metallurgy of the common metals, that this edition of 1921 has been largely rewritten to bring it in accord with present practice, as will be seen by examination of the following pages. Great pains have been taken to clearly set forth underlying principles and at the same time to give the details of methods and of metallurgical equip ment, and their cost. It is realized that, due to the rapid advance in prices, the costs of operation have lately been subject to serious modification. A chapter has been devoted to questions of the economic situation of the business of metallurgy. Little attempt has been made to describe methods not now in use. Excerpt from Production and Properties of Zinc: A Treatise on the Occurrence and Distribution of Zinc Ore, the Commercial and Technical Conditions Affecting the Production of the Spelter, Its Chemical and Physical Properties and Uses in the Arts This book was undertaken originally as the introductory portion of a treatise on the metallurgy of zinc. Upon the completion of the latter, how ever, it appeared advisable for various reasons to limit it to a consideration of the purely technical questions involved in the extraction of zinc from 'its ores, or rather the concentrated products which are delivered by the miners for smelting. Although a knowledge of the physical and chemical 'iproperties of the metal, the occurrence of its ores, and the conditions which afiect the markets is of importance to the smelter, it is equally of impor tance to the miner and trader. It was thought therefore that a collection of the general commercial and technical data of the metal in a special treatise devoted solely to it would be useful to those who are engaged in the industry in the various ways, and with that in view the present book was prepared upon a considerable enlargement of the original plan.
