Five of the 12 BIA regions (Eastern Oklahoma, Great Plains, Rocky Mountain, Southern Plains, and Western) contain 96 percent of these oil and gas leases. Of these active leases, about 10,700 were issued in the past 5 years. Royalties received from Indian leases exceeded $430 million for fiscal year (FY) 2011.
