Integration is agonizing as well as liberating. The new syntax of what the psyche is doing with and to us yields increased permeability of personal and collective living marked by a subjectivity within the objective other-than-self endorsing full fledged living of self. That cannot be done without tender regard for neighbor within and without, and forms of service to the transcendent.

In this space between, this joint, we are charged with holding still and listening for the many forms of nonverbal language the child may use to speak about their hurt. Premature efforts on our part may add static that pushes the child back, away from us. We will be tested in similar ways that the infant needed to test the integrity of an adult, when they cried out with their sharp and sudden needs. This book explores when something has gone wrong. But more so, ultimately it is about righting the relationship through the same trust the child requires at birth. The XXII International Congress for Analytical Psychology was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and for the first time in South America. It was also the first such congress delivered in hybrid form, bringing together IAAP members from all over the globe – in person and on screens. Guests interested in Jungian thinking from various other academic fields were invited and joined in the conversations. The theme of Opening to the Changing World was explored as we come out of a pandemic and face the imperative of fast changes to our ways of working and relating to people, living beings and the planet we inhabit. The Congress offered again ways of exploring themes via a rich programme of pre-congress workshops, masterclasses, plenary and breakout presentations and posters. The Proceedings are published as two volumes: a printed edition of the plenary presentations, and an e-book with the complete material presented at the Congress. To professionals as well as the general public, this collection of papers offers a cross-section and inspiring insight into contemporary Jungian thinking, spanning from classical theories to the latest scientific research.
