"Dr. Bakhou wrote this book to help Christians better understand Muslims and thus reach out to them in more effective ways. The book examines the Christian-Muslim encounter as a journey at three distinct and interrelated levels: first, we meet as human beings; second, as monotheistic believers; and third, as witnessing believers. Dr. Bakhou follows in Jesus' steps as He spoke with the Samaritan woman at the well and the two disciples walking to Emmaus. He also discusses lessons learned by Christian leaders in the Eastern Church when their lands came under Muslim rule. The book will include both a Leader Guide and a Study Guide for small groups"--

If a Muslim came to a Christian, and asked him to explain his belief in Jesus Christ how would a Christian respond? If an Imam asked a Christian Pastor to bring evidence of the Gospels authority would a Pastor welcome the opportunity? And if any Muslim would ask a Christian to judge between their respective beliefs would a Christian know how to do it? These questions presupposed an occurrence that most Christians will never encounter because most Muslims do not ask. Yet, the Quran has been asking these exact same questions of us for the last thirteen hundred years! Should we ignore the Quran for another Millennia? It is time to answer. On a visit to my local mosque, I asked the Imam if I could pray with him. Before I started to pray the Imam quickly interjected. You are not going to pray to Mary, are you? That there are those who pray to Mary (and worship her) is maybe understandable but it is not Biblical! Christians are told in the Quran to desist using the term Trinity. But the word Trinity is not found in the Bible. I believe, as Abraham believed, that there is a God that can be seen and a God that we do not see BUT they are one and the same! Allah is not a name, but the Arabic word for God, even Christians in the Middle East use the word! Al-Maidah 47 Let the People of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed in it. Isaiah 43:10 You are my witness, declares the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Here we hopefully put right many misconceptions and bring what God has revealed.

Through fair, contextual use of the Qur'an as the primary source text, apologist James R. White presents Islamic beliefs about Christ, salvation, the Trinity, the afterlife, and other important topics. Witnessing to Muslims should come with respect and compassion toward their differing beliefs. Yet historically, this has not been the truth. Author Abjar Bahkou has spent many years teaching about Muslim-Christian encounters locally and globally, creating the seed that grew into this book. He has personally lived these challenges in Syria and was always encouraged to face them by learning about God, who, in the incarnation, breaks in and builds bridges with humans. He did that by becoming one of us: He built the bridge to Christians in the person of Jesus Christ so that we would become His children. This book divides the task of sharing the Gospel with Muslims into four steps. First, see how to critically and respectfully engage with Islam and its teachings. Second, consider the teachings of Islam from a Christian perspective, learning the differences between Islam and Christianity. Third, learn how to respectfully answer Islam's questions about Christian doctrine. Finally, explore practical steps to minister and share a contextualized Gospel message with Muslims. Book jacket.

Understanding Islam's sacred text is integral to understanding your Muslim neighbor Cross-cultural missionary and scholar Matthew Aaron Bennett blends the insights of Islamic believers, secular Qur'an scholars, and missionaries to Muslims, making The Qur'an and the Christian like no other resource for Christian ministry to Muslims. Combining these perspectives in one guide better equips Christians to communicate the biblical gospel to friends and neighbors who are adherents to Islam--both in and out of majority-Muslim cultures. The Qur'an and the Christian addresses issues both simple and profound, such as: 1. How the Qur'an came to be, including Muhammed and the Qur'an's textual precursors 2. The major themes of the Qur'an and how these shape the practice of Islam 3. The presence of Bible characters, Jews, and Christians in the Qur'anic text 4. Whether and how a Christian should read the Qur'an 5. Avoiding miscommunication with Muslims when the Qur'an and Christian teaching seem to overlap This book will help Christians learn how to explore Islamic faith with missiological wisdom and biblical precision. The Qur'an and the Christian will give believers the insight to deepen friendships, promote understanding, and clarify the biblical gospel among Muslim friends and neighbors.
