Excerpt from The Refraction of the Eye: A Manual for Students I have found it necessary in several instances to repeat important matters, and this I have done to obviate the necessity of continual reference to other parts of the book, as well as in some cases to impress the importance of the subject upon the student. The woodcuts are numerous in proportion to the size of the work, but I consider that they are a very great help to the thorough understanding of the subject. The old measurements have been purposely omitted in favour of the almost universally adopted metrical system. It is confusing to the learner to have two distinct sets of measurements to deal with, and no possible good can accrue from perpetuating the old system of feet and inches. At the end of the work I have given a list of those authors to whom I have been indebted for much valuable information; and in conclusion, I take this opportunity of thanking my numerous friends for their help and suggestions. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in our edition. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.

For over 25 years, The Retinoscopy Book: An Introductory Manual for Eye Care Professionals has been the only basic instruction manual designed specifically to teach the art of clinical retinoscopy. This best-selling classic has been updated and revised to include the latest changes involving the retinoscope, and to meet the developing needs of students in ophthalmology and optometry. Sections on minus cylinders, concave mirror retinoscopy for high refractive errors, and a catalog of instruments have been expanded to reflect the most recent innovations. New sections on retinoscopy after refractive surgery and instrument maintenance are unique to this fifth edition. This text is designed to supplement the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) instruction courses for technicians or to facilitate a do-it-yourself training program for ophthalmology residents, ophthalmic technicians, optometry students, and other eye care professionals in training. Figures and illustrations supplement time-tested exercises to facilitate learning. The user-friendly format prevalent throughout the text enables students to develop a complete understanding of the retinoscope and its many uses.
