Excerpt from The Southern Presbyterian Journal, Vol. 13: A Presbyterian Weekly Magazine Devoted to the Statement, Defense and Propagation of the Gospel, the Faith Which Was Once for All Delivered Unto the Saints; May 5, 1954 For some years there have been those in our Church who have been trying to liberalize the work of our Board of World Missions. Not daring to Openly challenge Dr. Fulton, or members of the Board, they have tried under the guise of a deep concern for the worldwide mission of the Church, to change the basic conception of Christian missions which has been maintained by our Church. It seems passing strange that our Board of World Missions, composed of men and women represent ing every viewpoint within the bounds of our Church, and having as its Executive Secretary, Dr. C. Darby Fulton, the man who is recognized as the outstanding missionary statesman in America to day, should find itself under review, with covert but very real criticism from a group in our Church. Excerpt from The Southern Presbyterian Journal, Vol. 14: May 4, 1955 And now comes the announcement of the above mentioned overture to the Assembly. Somehow I cannot avoid my first impression, that this is an attempt to force our people to get into line and stay there - or else. Southern Presbyterians have never been noted for their favorable _response to coercive measures, and they are not likely to warm up to this new one. Furthermore, the timing of the proposal is anything but opportune. We have just voted upon the question Of Church Union, and at least one of the parties to the debate desires to forget the unpleasantness still fresh in the minds of the Church, and get down to business. The overture does not promise such a result, but on the contrary is most likely to widen the breach that is already too wide. Excerpt from The Southern Presbyterian Journal, Vol. 17: May 7, 1958 Sometimes people are inclined to shy away from the term calling, because they interpret it as having to do only with religious work. This is the official interpretation of the Roman Catholic Church. As Bible-believing Protes tants we cannot accept this view. We do not believe that a person is free to do as he pleases with his life, if only he can escape being called into the service of the church. We can not believe that our God is unconcerned with those whom He does not call to serve Him in the church. It is the duty and blessed privilege of every Christian to seek and follow the calling of the Lord with respect to his life work. In the discussions that follow we shall try to indi cate how we may know our calling. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Southern Presbyterian Journal, Vol. 1: A Presbyterian Monthly Magazine Devoted to the Statement, Defense and Propagation of the Gospel, the Faith Which Was Once for All Delivered Unto the Saints; May, 1942-April, 1943 This question has been asked and it justifies a specific reply. The interesting thing, however, is that it has been asked by only a few of the hun dreds who have sent in subscriptions. To many, the answer is obvious, and their response has been enthusiastic. However, there must be clear justification for the time, effort and financial outlay involved in such an undertaking, and we hope now, and in the coming months, to show that such justification exists. Excerpt from The Southern Presbyterian Journal, Vol. 10: A Presbyterian Weekly Magazine Devoted to the Statement, Defense and Propagation of the Gospel, the Faith Which Was Once for All Delivered Unto the Saints; May 2, 1951 Recently a group had a discussion about the above question. It was generally agreed among the group that no family was Christian unless its members were professing Christians who actively followed Chris tian practices in the home and in the church to which they belonged. All too often, however, these Chris tian practices are con-fined merely to going to church, reading the Bible, and doing certain things that are called religious.
