Seances, spirit life, spirit teaching, brought in their wake a whole flotilla of lesser craft, such as table-turning, clairvoyance and physical phenomena, more or less trustworthy. A great outcry arose. The Church, as ever, was the severest judge and the most dogmatic denouncer of a "new thing."
