The adjudication of these marks of distinction His Majesty has vested in the Council of the Society. In the year 1825, His Majesty was pleased to confirm and perpetuate the Society by the grant of a Royal Charter; and in furtherance of his royal intentions, a piece of ground, near the church of St. Martin in the Fields, has been assigned, as the site of a hall, library, and other offices for the use of the Society: a contribution has since been made by several mem bers of the Society towards defraying the expense Of erecting the buildings. A statement of the objects of the Society; its powers and privileges, together with its laws and regulations, and a Copy of the Charter, will be found in the following pages.
