The principles which they inculcate I have endeavoured to enforce, by precept and example, for many years. As the subject is one of very general importance, ! have, at the instigation of an old pupil and friend, determined to give them more publicity. I have been further induced to take this step from the numerous instances of deformity and lameness which present themselves every year for admission into St. Bartholomew's requiring very painful and serious operations; the majority of which might unquestionably have been prevented, if the rules contained in the following pages had been attended to.
