Nightclubs are closing at such a rate in Britain - down from an estimated 4,200 in 1994 to around 1,700 in 2017 - that they could soon be a relic of a bygone age. This book is set in the period from the mid 1970's to the mid 1980's. The country was emerging from a time of grim austerity with industrial strikes and the imposed 3-day working week. People still needed to enjoy themselves, though, and with pubs back then closing at 11 pm, many found their fun at the nightclub during this golden age of disco. What was it like to be a part of it all? This is an account of one young man's journey through clubland, experiencing the glamour and hedonism, and inevitably finding love. But, there was also the harsh life behind the scenes: the daily grind, constant insecurity, and the threat of physical violence. With its tales of love and laughter, tears and tragedy, this is a unique insight into a social and cultural aspect of British life that could soon be gone forever.

1980 was an important year for Top of the Pops: it was the year it began to transform from a light entertainment show into essential viewing for pop music aficionados. The transition didn't happen overnight, but when a Musicians' Union strike forced the programme off air for the whole of June and July, producer Michael Hurll took the opportunity to restructure the show. As a result the latter half of 1980 was often bizarre, occasionally quite grim, but always fascinating as Hurll threw all sorts of new formats at the screen to see what would stick. This transitional year is documented here. Hopefully you will find it a breathtaking rollercoaster of good and bad decisions made in the pursuit of television excellence. Or maybe it will just inspire you to dig out some old records you'd forgotten. Either's good.

After Diane D’s singing performance inside a crowded auditorium is over, a chubby little black boy named Marcus approaches her. He brings Diane D to a private area in the school and tells Diane D that there is no charity case in the school. He confesses to Diane D that there was never a charity case at the school that the entire charity case was all a hoax planned by him and his brother. He tells Diane D that he and his brother tricked her and her family into thinking that there was a charity case at the school just so that she can appear there and perform. Diane D becomes shocked when she realize that there was never a charity case at the school. She is shocked when she realize that she and her family had been tricked into coming to the school. She starts to become sad. She then becomes angry. She then goes crazy and terrorizes the little boy right inside the school!

The Gatekeepers follows a diverse group of prospective students as they compete for places in the nation's most elite colleges. The first book to reveal the college admission process in such behind-the-scenes detail, The Gatekeepers will be required reading for every parent of a high school-age child and for every student facing the arduous and anxious task of applying to college. Out of all the divas at New Day Temple of Faith, Unique has to be the most colorful one--she and her mother Lorain, that is. Never one to hold her tongue in the name of keepin' it real, it's no surprise that Unique has not been saved all her life. It's safe to say that Lorain wasn't born on the church pew either. Let the church folk tell it, the apple hasn't fallen too far from the tree when it comes to Unique. Lorain--once known as the tight skirt, V-neck blouse, too much makeup-wearing leader of the New Day Singles Ministry--claims she's there to look out for her daughter and try to keep her in check. But how in the world does Lorain think she can even begin to keep her daughter on the straight and narrow with her own crooked life? Some might say Lorain has failed miserably as a mother when Unique ends up in jail for three counts of murder. One who would agree is the woman who raised Unique while Lorain was out living her life freely. As an all-out war takes place between Unique's birth mother and the woman who raised her, will Unique have any support while she fights for her life behind bars? Will all forsake her while they are too busy with their own agendas? Only God holds the answer to this one.
