By 2050, global population will increase from 7 billion to a staggering 9.5 billion and the demands this will place on food and water systems will inevitably push river basins over the edge. The findings from this book present a different picture. If national governments and development organizations do not shape up quickly to protect SSA from water exploitation the consequences will be serious. There is a right way and a wrong way to deal with water scarcity. There are dangers in food-availability, health, land-grapping, conflict escalation etc. The main issues are all addressed here in an attempt to give insight and oversight of the current situation and the issues to tackle before aquifers are dried out completely.

The key finding of the report is that climate change represents a significant obstacle to the sustained eradication of poverty, but future impacts on poverty are determined by policy choices: rapid, inclusive, and climate-informed development can prevent most short-term impacts whereas immediate pro-poor, emissions-reduction policies can drastically limit long-term ones.
