Belina and Zora arrived back in Austria having lived more than forty years in South Africa, where a series of shocks rocked the normality of their lives: An armed robbery at their home, the killing of a friend's brother, car-jackings of friends and the rape of a client's pregnant daughter. On top, the sudden change of permanent residency, from one continent to another, wore heavily on body and soul. But however cumbersome the reintegration process into a different society had become, the city of Vienna had acknowledged striving for democratic coexistence with all its people. The initially different lifestyle might be tough, as one is thrown to the heap of jobless and receivers of social help, but then one is not left out in the bitter cold and one feels to be placed with one's feet upon familiar ground. Months of searching for an affordable flat is turning out to be a nightmare, as even accommodation in remote spots and in poor condition demands unreasonably high deposits. During that time they met Tommy, the gregarious owner of an Art Shop, who exhibits his father's paintings from the Holocaust experience. In discussions with him, Belina and Zora recall also the death of both their grandfathers, due to deadly blows by Nazi fanatics. After three months of flat searching, a friendly associate tells Zora to look outside Vienna and he finds an offer in the paper. Belina sells part of her jewelry needed for the deposit. With the public transport system, they reach Weidling, where an agent drives them to a building opening to a courtyard. The Bedsitter is small but has a separate kitchenette and a pleasant bathroom. The furnished flat has been renovated with modern materials and decorated with light coloured finishes. Zora signs the rental agreement. Belina and Zora, two individuals with strong personalities, had ongoing domestic fights since Belina gave up her chronic medication prescribed in South Africa. She cannot find her place and besides her irregular sleeping habits suffers from a nervous condition. She worries constantly about the remainder of her wardrobe she had to leave back in Athens, a generous large flat they had rented for three years when Zora had worked for three solo exhibitions for his paintings, shown in well-established galleries. But, due to economic circumstances, they have to leave their flat at short notice and return to Vienna. During his daily walks along the scenic Weidlingbach, Zora meets Albert, his virtual collocutor...

Suddenly the COVID-19 Pandemic hit Europe and due to its rapid spread Lockdowns had been enforced by governments. Here in Austria, in the heart of Vienna, the poet would experience a completely changed city, reminding him of a ghost town. During the First Lockdown, he traveled in empty trains and streets without people, for several weeks, musing and reflecting about this change of life in the city. At times, he loses the face of a friend through abstinence, he used to meet at St Stephen's Square, though friends would be in contact through the mobile phone, yet personal meetings are still most important to the poet and he misses them. Medical matters are questioned, as well as the products of inoculation, and besides information given seems controversial. In this situation, the poet remains at most times of the day at his writing desk and muses about his quality of life. During the Second Lockdown, matters conducting a usual daily life became for most people very difficult, to say the least. However, it seemed to stir up the poet's memory banks. During the time shopping for necessary food items, the poet observed extreme silence, except for the neighbor's knock on the door, checking on him, exchanging views on the government's offices of health, the wearing of masks, and the changing laws about inoculations. The poet's mind wandered back to his experiences in life, friends, his occupation with art, and remembrances that suddenly appeared in clarity.

The poet has endeavoured to place his pure emotions into words. Having found a compatible love mate encouraged him to extend an initial adventure into a search for the more engaged fusion of heart/mind/and soul. An inexplicable driving force of desire and lust became a mutual survival tool for the mature aged partnership that extended to the state of soulmates, who would seek the limits of intimate sensualities. Defining features of sex weren't alone penis in vagina (PIV), but more so a natural longing for engaging one's entire body with all the sensuality of one's skin transferring one's feelings to the partner, with the alternatives of manual and oral lovemaking, thereby learning to know one's partner and her desires intimately. "Perhaps at that stage of mature love, our libidos were still intact to a good extent and therefore furthering our desires and we could therefore satisfy our demands of pleasuring our partners successfully," the poet experienced indeed. Indeed, the so-called 'sacred triad' in lovemaking leads to experience a fusion of heart/mind/and body. "It was an experience;" the poet said, "I would wish for all couples, especially all mature ones". The poet's soulmate described this culmination in mature love as "winning a lottery ticket." Intimacies on- and offline lead to the desire of tasting each other in "flesh and blood", finally experiencing the real physical togetherness, the foreplay actions thru' cyber-love prepared beforehand in all delightful details. Basically, intense communication prepared the way to greater physical and mental fulfilment. Continual foreplay and a description of one's sexual fantasies one wished to share, less egotistical demands and the poet's a wish to satisfy his sexual partner first. Indeed, elderly people are capable of experiencing strong love. In that sense, the poet has written his first-hand experiences, when the lust had culminated in wonderful intense orgasms.

Age is only a number, known humorously, but handicaps at an advanced age are painful. Luckily, after successful operations on my hip joints, I was able to detect the joys of walking again. Have I walked during my student years with a friend across Vienna, we enjoyed the summer days at the 'Alte Donau'-baths. Later, when I met my girlfriend, we enjoyed walking in the Viennese Woods near the suburb of Sievering. Back to Vienna from South Africa, where I've spent most of my adult working life, I had followed the advice from a local physician to take up Nordic Walking as a sport and therapy once I had healed from my two operations. A new life awaited me: Experiencing the extent of the Viennese Woods, fields, and a heath, besides the extent of a world city from many different vistas. I also listened to my inner voice causing many flashes of remembrances during my extensive walks.

Inspired by Andre Brink's book: "Before I forget," I have thought about my own Muses, who I met during my life, and who inspired me to write poetry - love poetry - short stories, and novels. I have been blessed by so many wonderful women, who have been great friends, besides partaking with me in various sessions at 'Writers Write' workshops, assisting me with forging my enthusiasm for writing into an emerging personal style under Amanda's caring guidance. Much later, I realized the quality of those writing workshops that brought out the best in us in search of self-expression in our literary efforts. I wish to honor them all, writing about their importance to me, their dedication and time, during our relationships. Experiencing friendship and love will be the motor for inspired writing and the greatest gift for the poet. Muses appear in person and their number might be three, six, and nine, depending on their tasks, as known from Classical Greek mythology. Picasso stated that an artist has his personal Muse, extending their numbers to ten. In this sense, I have a peek at my artistic endeavors by experiencing my own tenth Muse. who guided me along to my self-realization in the arts.

In MUSES IV, 'Magic Unisons', as the title indicates, the word magic explains best those moments, when during the process of composing word sequences that gradually become verses and stanzas, and could lead to a whole cycle of compositions, like in the 'Chants of a Traveling Bard'. For love, in 'Magic Unisons', transferred into many shades of enjoyment and happy feelings, one's Muses certainly stimulate the poet with their sensual impulses: This cannot be stored like goods, but the traces of those happy moments are still embedded in the poet's soul and the souls of all people engaged in creative work. Fascinating are the times one spends looking through one's creative output of one year that usually happens at the end of it when the mood is influenced by dark ominous cloud formations, snowfall that reflects the dusky light, fine stringing rain, unexpected storms, and foggy mystical mornings. Indeed, magical unisons are unique.
