This state, October 21, 1838, and is a son of Isaiah and Electa the former a native of Georgia and the latter of Connecticut. They became residents of Illinois in territorial days, and upon a farm in Perry county they reared their family of ten children, of whom the judge was the ninth in order of birth. His education was acquired in the country schools near his home and at an early age he began working as a farm hand, being thus employed until his marriage.
